The Role of Head of Technical Area
The Head of each Technical area is a Proficient Person who is knowledgeable about the area and its exhibits and is therefore able to impart knowledge to members and visitors.
Their main responsibilities include:

Safety
• Risk assessment for the area kept up to date and reviewed regularly
• Method statement kept up to date and reviewed
• Ensure all members working in the area are conversant with both the risk assessment and method statement.
• Ensure that a sufficient number of volunteers are present for Steaming days.
• Carry out pre-opening check of the area for loss, damage or hazards.
• Keep the area looking attractive to visitors and clear of any rubbish.

Maintenance
• Keep the area to a safe standard in keeping with the heritage of the Mill and report any problems immediately.
• Take responsibility for purchase or ordering of consumable items for the area including PPE and present order/receipt to the treasurer.
• Present any proposal for significant alterations to the Heritage advisory Committee for consideration.

Training
• Take responsibility for training of volunteers and making recommendations to the board in the areas of proficiency as defined as Competent and Proficient.
• Keep records up to date as regards certifying members and renewing/reviewing certification on a regular basis depending on the regularity of attendance of the member at the Mill.

The Board greatly appreciate members taking these roles and would stress that any HTA is invited to bring any concerns or suggestions to the Board.
